DLI Outreach Summer School 2020 - Virtual Voice Workshop
Due to health and safety restrictions imposed to protect people from Covid-19, the 55th DLI Summer School could not go ahead in its traditional format but all was not lost! Plans were put in place by Willie O’Brien, Summer School Director, and team (Ollie Kenny, Christine O'Brien & Elaine McLoughlin, with assistance from DLI Administrator Valerie McGuile), to present an Outreach DLI Summer School Programme. It entailed a blended learning approach, a mixture of online and in-person theatre training around the country.
A Virtual Voice Masterclass on Zoom with Tutor Andrea Ainsworth (Abbey Theatre Voice Director) was held on 26th July organised by DLI Development Officer John Lennon firstname.lastname@example.org. There were only 99 places available and they booked up fast.
Face-to-face, socially distanced workshop were held over the summer, in Ballyshannon, Ballina, Corofin, Whitechurch (Cork), Coolgreaney and Navan, in formats which complied with Covid-19 conditions and guidelines.
It was brilliant to feel the energy and the enthusiasm for amateur drama at the workshops and to have the creative connections kept alive, even in these challenging times. The spirit of those involved is admirable!
DLI Summer School Outreach workshops were kindly supported by Dept of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. DLI would particularly like to acknowledge the support for amateur drama given by former Minister Josepha Madigan.
Here's to DLI Summer School 2021 - hopefully things will be back to normal by then!
