DLI Directing Masterclass with Jimmy Murphy on Zoom 28/02/21

20th Feb 2021

DIRECTING MASTERCLASS

We are delighted that Jimmy Murphy will give a Directing Masterclass on Sunday 28th February at 10am which will be delivered via Zoom. Jimmy has a clear understanding and love for the amateur drama community, and is a great supporter of our movement.

Jimmy Murphy is a playwright and director of the highest calibre. His plays include Brothers of the Brush, Perfidia, Kings of the Kilburn High Road and What's Left of the Flag. He has written widely for television and radio, and is currently working on new material in the midst of lockdown. He was elected a member of Aosdána in 2004.

This Directing Masterclass will examine what is required to bring a play from the page to the stage and will explore the logistics of directing a play. We will look at how the director assembles and collaborates with their production and design teams and what happens in the rehearsal room. Jimmy will also provide some insight into the notes he gives to actors along with other tips and techniques from a theatre maker who is one of the shining lights of modern Irish Drama.

Whilst the primary focus of the workshop/masterclass will be on directing, it will be relevant to everyone involved in amateur drama productions. The class will run from 10am to 12.30pm approximately.

DLI is offering the class free of charge to our members. €10 to non-members (payable by EFT). Please ensure to put your name on the transfer.
